Explore possible island-day routes with a provider. Sabah Tourism Board states that visits require a Sabah Parks permit; confirm who arranges it.
Consider the island viewpoint only if the walk suits your group. Check current access, footwear requirements and the route with the operator.
A town stay can give you a starting point for day trips. Confirm the exact departure jetty and whether your selected island route includes a town transfer.
A suggested sequence, not a fixed package. Extend the trip if arrival and departure days leave little exploring time.
DAY 1
Arrange the airport-to-accommodation transfer. If arriving late, confirm a mainland stay rather than assuming a boat connection.
DAY 2
Follow the route agreed with your operator, including permissions, equipment and alternatives for changed conditions.
DAY 3
Add a second island day only when the return schedule allows. Keep the boat-to-flight connection realistic.
Tawau is a common arrival airport identified by Sabah Tourism Board. Give the driver the flight details and actual hotel or jetty address.
Confirm whether the quote is a transfer or an activity trip. Ask for the jetty pin, passenger limits and the return arrangements.
Ask the accommodation provider about its own pickup windows. Road transport does not automatically include a boat.

Sabah Tourism Board gives an indicative 30-minute boat journey from Semporna. It describes a one-way trail of 700 m up and 600 m down, with covered shoes required. Allow extra time for boarding and your group’s walking pace; the actual crossing depends on your departure point and conditions.
A visit to Tun Sakaran Marine Park requires a Sabah Parks permit. Sabah Tourism Board also notes an entrance fee for the Bohey Dulang hike. Before paying for a day trip, get written confirmation of who arranges the permit and whether the quoted total includes the hiking fee, boat, guide and equipment.
Suggested sequence: arrive via Tawau, take your arranged road transfer and stay in Semporna before the island day. Confirm the next morning’s meeting point and route that evening. If your flight arrives too late for the accommodation’s confirmed boat connection, arrange a mainland night and the next suitable departure instead.
Treat the island day as flexible: a viewpoint walk when access is open, then only the neighbouring stops agreed with your operator. Keep your onward flight separate from a tight boat connection.
